It has been quite a while; I had spent some leisure time of my own. And hence this Sunday we friends decided to visit F.C. road- one of the most happening and vibrant places in Pune. With the Tag “F.C. Road” the first thing that comes to one’s mind is lots of shopping and good food. You will see lot of youngsters, literally spread all over this area. The reason being famous colleges and food joints around! Some of these colleges and food joints have a history of 55-60 years and thus generations and generations have been witnessing the growing charm of this place.
Shopping at F.C. road is just fun!! You will find everything at this place, from small needle to branded clothes. There are many small shops or “thelas” which have hell lot of variety of bags, wallets, chappals, jewelry, clips, hair bands, bangles, earrings, cosmetics etc.- all of latest fashion. The good part is that you will get everything at a reasonable rate- provided you are good at bargaining! Be sure that your pocket is full of money as you just cannot resist buying attractive stuff here and also because credit/debit cards are not accepted at these small shops/ thelas.
The best time to visit this happening road is after 11:30 in the morning as it is an opening time of shops. If you will ask me then I would prefer to spend my evenings here. The most of the shops or thelas are open till 10:30 pm or so. The main difference lies in the glittering of the items. In the evening all looks shiny, glossy and bright and you will love the fancy stuff here but just be aware in a sense – “the purpose of buying that item” -as in daylight the same color might appear different.
This area is very close to the heart of girls, mainly because this place has almost everything that a girl wishes to have in her wardrobe and/ or on her dressing table. But guys wait, don’t lose your heart! This can turn out to be the best opportunity to impress your girlfriend or your wife by offering them freedom of shopping. And I bet you won’t regret visiting this place as you can spend your time in bird watching… (Sorry Girls, I didn’t mean it… you concentrate on your shopping! 😀 ) Even for guys this place holds cool accessories which they surely don’t want miss upon.
The other best thing about this place is the yummy and delicious food joints! To name a few; Good luck Café, Vaishali, Rupali, Wadeshwar, Amrpali, Chocolate sandwich which are at your service to please your taste buds. Vaishali is my favorite one; you must try Mysore Dosa, Cheese chilly toast and “chai” which is served in a glass. It’s just an amazing combination! You will also find many ice cream parlors around and a newly opened frozen yogurt shop “Cocoberry”- where blueberry flavor is a must try!
These places mostly serve snacks item, if you wish to have lunch or dinner then you can visit “Horn Ok please”- which has a complete Dhaba style ambiance. You can also visit “Sharvari” located at Sant Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk (the best “Maharashtrian thali “I have ever tasted so far ) while on the first floor you will get multi-cuisine food. You order any food item from the menu and it will taste deliciously delicious!!
Another thing which I would like to mention about this place is the book stalls for avid readers. To be specific you can visit one such stall just next to Archie’s at Good luck Chowk. One of the prominent feature of this place is huge “British Library” standing for more than 50 years which is catering the information to the students across the globe. It has a collection of 21,000 books and 3,500 DVD’s to meet the needs of members of the Library.
So if you are in Pune and looking for killing your time in a great way, then this is the place for you. Do shopping, stroll along the pathways, buy a good book and relax at one of the food joint sipping your coffee/ tea or order some good food.
No matter how much I would write about this place, it seems less!! I have been visiting F.C. road since my college time and in spite of that I find this place more vibrant and more happening each time… Just can’t stop loving this place! 🙂
